The Skye House at Glendale offers a delightful blend of contemporary luxury and rural charm. This newly built property is set on the glorious Duirinish peninsula of Skye’s beautiful west coast, near Dunvegan (8 miles) and just five minutes from the iconic Neist Point.
Perched high in Glendale, the house is perfectly positioned to showcase breathtaking views of Macleod’s Tables. The vaulted ceiling and expansive glass wall immerse guests in the dramatic landscape, where golden eagles soar, red deer roam, and the Hamara River meanders. At night, the abundance of stars and occasional northern lights create a magical atmosphere.
Upon entering the spacious open-plan living area, the panoramic vista through the glass wall immediately captivates. Comfy seating by the wood-burning stove offers a cosy spot to enjoy the view and the warming glow of the fire. Quality Italian furniture and local artwork enhance the inviting space. A sliding glass door near the dining area opens onto a large raised deck, while the kitchen is thoughtfully equipped with everything needed for cooking.
Both double bedrooms are beautifully presented, featuring large windows by the king-size beds for uninterrupted views each morning. Glendale, less than a mile away, has a little shop/post office and a coffee shop and traditional jewellery can be picked up at nearby Skye Silver. The peninsula itself is great for hiking and climbing or venture about an hour south for the chance to tackle the famous Cuillin mountains.
Less than 5 minutes’ walk away is an excellent vegetarian restaurant where tasty dishes can be paired with fine teas from around the world. Foodies will be delighted that it is only a 10 minute drive to the award-winning Three Chimneys Restaurant which is a wonderful place to enjoy a really special meal.
History buffs will want to go to Loch Dunvegan to explore the majestic Dunvegan Castle (9 miles) that sits on a rocky outcrop of the eastern shore. 30 generations of the MacLeod family have called it home over the past 800 years and it is still occupied to this day. Tickets are available for tours of the castle and there are also boat trips for spotting the local colony of seals.
It is worth venturing further up the loch to the stunning beach at Claigan (13 miles) that is a real sight to behold with its bright white sands (coralline deposits from Maërl seaweed) that make the water look particularly blue and inviting. It almost seems tropical, particularly on fine days, although it is a joy to wander along whatever the weather to take in stunning views towards the Outer Hebrides.
To experience the highest cliff walk in Britain, head over to Neist Point (4.5 miles) where the path along the cliffs leads to the Stevenson lighthouse on a headland at the most westerly part of Skye. The dramatic scene below often leaves visitors awestruck and there is the possibility of spotting dolphins, whales and basking sharks as well as a huge array of seabirds.
